Finding the missing record in an invoice review

A controlled demonstration showed how a small document set could be checked quickly without hiding gaps in the evidence.

The matter

Five invoices and a spreadsheet were supplied for review. The task was to organise the records, calculate the totals and examine the VAT position.

What QOG did

The records were structured into a clear schedule. Invoice totals and VAT were reconciled against the spreadsheet, and the relationship between the source documents and the summary was preserved.

What emerged

One expected invoice was not present in the supplied set. Instead of filling the gap with an assumption, the review identified the missing record and kept the conclusion bounded by the evidence available.

Why it mattered

The useful result was not merely a calculation. It was a traceable answer showing what had been checked, what agreed and what was still missing.

Important: Case notes are anonymised and limited to the records and purpose described. They are not promises of the same outcome in another matter.
